Our Doujinshi And Chapter 102

Sat Dec 12, 2009, 10:49 AM
~TheoreticallyEva and I both held off on creating more content for our Doujinshi in the past week. And now that FMA chapter 102 has been released we feel compelled to alter the story a bit. It's not a particularly huge change to the story, but it brings rise to the need to rewrite the entire first chapter.

So basically I have to be the bearer of bad news and let you know that I have to redraw most, if not everything I've drawn up until now. I'm not fussed to be honest, I was almost half way done, but I see it as a practice run for the real thing! I also don't want to make any promises, but I feel inspired to finish that chapter before the new year. My partner in crime will be sending me the rewrite of chapter one by Sunday evening (tomorrow or today depending on your time zone :XD:) And then I'll be glued to my chair drawing again! Luckily the teaser page I mentioned won't have to change much, I just need to change some text, so where I originally intended to post it when I was halfway done with chapter one, you'll now get it a bit sooner.

However, to prevent us from doing the same thing next month, we've made a deal to ignore all future FMA content that could make massive changes to our story (like a character being killed off). Our story takes place a few years after the Promised Day. If a character is alive in our story, but dies in a future chapter of FMA we will include a story special to explain what different choices were made that day in our Doujinshi's universe.

Okay, onwards to chapter 102 rants!

The fangirl inside me is crying, but the story person inside me is squealing with delight. Arakawa is the master. Seriously. The twists and turns are just so brilliant, and everything always makes sense. Wow. I will be ecstatic if I can someday create such a wonderful story.

For those of you who like to dream up theories, or simply enjoy reading other people's theories... I have one!

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ CHAPTER 102 YET!

Father talked about Truth being what they revered as their god. But that can't be, because a god is not supposed to punish indiscriminately. In terms of doing human transmutation, Ed and Al sinned, Izumi sinned, Roy did not. So why would a god punish him so harshly? That's the point, I don't think "Truth" is their god. If it's the only god figure in the FMA universe then it had to have been corrupted by something. Perhaps by Father... and he feeds this corruption by making human sacrifices, which in turns provides him with immortality. That thing is vile and cruel. Perhaps "Truth" is closer to our version of the devil, forever lurking in the shadows trying to break down good people. But what confuses me is that Father was simply an experiment in a flask, and he manipulated Hohenheim into helping him become what he is. Have any of you asked yourselves where Father came from in the first place? Maybe Father was the result of the first human transmutation? Maybe the curious alchemist who put him in that flask opened the gate by accident and Father took his chance to slip out into the real world where he could cause death and destruction. Perhaps it was a case of Pandora's Box. Perhaps Father was never supposed to leave or great despair would erupt? Maybe the gate taking from Ed, Al, Izumi and Roy their dreams is a form of payment for Father to remain outside the gate. Maybe that's why he needs human sacrifices... maybe that's why he destroyed Xerxes, to pay the toll for staying in the world. Maybe there's some benevolent being waiting deep inside the gate, shut inside trying to escape, but unable due to the shroud of evil that keeps on being fed. A case of hope not finding its way to world when Pandora shut the box after realizing what she's released upon the world. She later released hope into the world. Maybe FMA's version of hope is in the gate struggling to get out. It wouldn't be the first time Arakawa has referenced Greek mythology.

Do you guys have any thoughts on the matter?

Cheers!

I just read about the Doujinshi of F.M.A. that you're working on. I read manga, but I've never read a Doujinshi, so I want to give yours a chance. By the way, I'm glad that you're taking into account, what happened in the new chapter. As for the Truth, I doubt it's a God. Why should God play a big part in Alchemy, something only a small amount of the population participates in. As for Roy getting punished, even though he was forced into it, I think losing something's just part of the process. The Truth likely doesn't care about the intentions, or circumstances of the Alchemists it meets at the gate. As for God punishing indiscriminately, unless you follow a certain type of religion, it's impossible to know what God's intentions are, or how the system of the afterlife operates. Well, I don't want get to serious about religion here, so I'll leave it at that. I enjoyed your art a lot, so keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to reading your Doujinshi.

(p.s.): Will Greed-Ling, and Lan Fan make an appearance in your Doujinshi?
